What does the Loss of Paul Hamm mean for U.S. Olympic Gymnastics?

Last Monday, I reported on Paul Hamm's unfortunate withdrawal from the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics team due to injury. An piece, entitled Tough task without Hamm probes the effect of Hamm's absence on Team USA.

NBC's Tim Daggett summarized the loss of Hamm this way:

It puts the U.S. men squarely in the underdog position..., but it could be something that they rally around and they could come into the Games very strong.

Let's hope for a rally. It's hard to see the team-leading Hamm miss his shot at gold due to injury, but he is only one member of a strong team.
